Kilcummin 1-17 (Pen 7) Glenflesk 2-14 (Pen 6)

In a final that produced great drama, super scores, suberb goalkeeping and tension filled penalty shootout, Kilcummin prevailed over Glenflesk on sudden-death spot kicks to claim the Killarney Carpet and Furniture O'Aullivan Cup for 2024

After a minute's silence in honour of East Kerry Chairman John Dineen and former Board treasurer Andy O'Sullivan, who both sadly died before Christmas, the game started slowly, with Callum Cronin from a free kick disalloewd for being taken from the wrong place, the only thing of note in the early stages.

Points from Tommy Bowler and Jamie Moynihan in the seventh and eight minutes gave Glenflesk the an early lead but Kilcummin responded with points from Mark O'Shea and a terrific score from Padraic Moynihan. Both teams continued to attack with adventure, with Moynihan for Kilcummin and Bowler for Glenflesk prominent.

Glenflesk got the first goal of the game after 26 minutes, from Callum Cronin, who fired his shot off the ground into the far corner of the net. Kilcummin responded immediatley with points from Richie O'Connor and Cian Foley to leave it all square at half time, 1-05 to 0-08 points.

Two early points from Killian O'Sullivan and one from Bowler saw Glenflesk off to a fast start to the second half.

Kilcummin struck back well with a '45 from goalkeeper Keith O'Leary, added to by points from Moynihan and Mikey O'Shea, and only a superb block from David O'Connor denied Foly a goal.

From here the tension mounted and scores got harder to come by. When Bowler struck over his fourth point from a free just as injury time arrived it looked like Glenflesk would grab the win. Kilcummin got one more opportunity, with Mark O'Shea, pointing a close in free to take the game to extra-time.

Early points from Philip O'Leary and Sean Doolan put Kilcummin back in front but Cronin then grabbed his second goal, firing past O'Leary from close range, Glenflesk kept hold of their two-point into the final minute.

With a free from pretty much in front of the posts Mark O'Shea dropped his shot around the square and Shane MCSweeney rose above everyone to fist the ball to the net put Kilcummin a point ahead. Back came Glenflesk, with Cronin pointing a free with the last kick to force penalties.

The Penalty shoot-out saw some brilliant saves from O'Leary of Kilcummin and Kenny Cronin from Glenflesk. Thear was also some top class penalities from Danny Lucy and Sean Doolan. Eventually O'Leary made the crucial save and Kilcummin were champions after an epic game.
