Fossa 1-17 (Pen 4) Kilcummin 0-20 (Pen 2)
For only the second time in the Club's history Fossa claimed the East Kerry Junor Championship tltle on Saturday last, bridging a 47 year gap to our last winning team of 1975 after beating Kiloummin 4-2 on penalties, following an enthralling and entertairing final played in glorious sunshine in Dr Crokes Lewis Road grounds.
Fossa started brightly with a point from Emmet O'Shea, but Kilcummin quickly took control of the opening stages of the game leading 5 points to 2 after the first quarter, Harry Kelly with Fossa's other point. Emmet O'Shea again responded to reduce the deficit to 2 before Kilcummin went on a run of scoring 3 unanswered ponts to open a 5-point lead at the 20 minute mark. In the final 10 minutes of the first half Fossa outscored Kicummin with points from Emmet O'Shea, Ruairi Doyle and Darren Cronin to close the deficit to 3 points at the halfway point Kilcummin 0-9 Fossa 0-6.
Fossa and Kilcummin exchanged points in the opening minutes of the second half with Fossa's scores coming from the boots of Emmet O'Shea and Darren Cronin before a goalmouth scramble ended up with Harry Kelly finishing the ball into the Kiilcummin net to level the scores 1-8 to 0-11 with 10 minutes gone in the second half. Kilcummin with two unanswered points in the final 10 mirutes looked to have secured the game but when Harry Kelly broke through for a point in the 31st minute to reduce the deficit to the bare minimum Fossa pushed hard to win the final kick out and a monstrous point from the boot of Ruairi Doyle, who was immense throughout forced the game to extra time. Final score Fossa 1-12 Kilcummin 0-15.
Kilcummin started extra time in whirlwind fashion and quickly raced into a 4-point lead approaching half time in extra time before Harry Kelly and Tadgh O'Shea reduced the lead to 2 at the halfway point in extra time. Fossa took total control of the second period of Extra time and points from Harry Buckley and 3 points from Emmet O'Shea saw Fossa take a 1 point lead as the clock ran down Matt Keane who had an outstanding game for Kilcummin had the final say of the game with a superb point to level the scores as the ref blew the Full Time whistle to foroe the game into a Penalty Shootout Final Scora Fossa1-17 Kilcurmiin 0-20.
Kilcummin were first up in the shootout and an astonishing save from Shane O'Sullivan in the Fossa goal ensured Fossa got off to the best possible start. Tadgh O'Shea, Ruairi Doyle and Harry Kelly scored Fossa's first 3 spots kick and when Kilcummin missed their 4th Penalty it was left to Harry Buckley who neatlly tucked the ball into the bottom corner to ensure Fossa claimed the title for only the second time in their history.
In a game thal Iooked lost on a couple of occasions Fossa's fitness and never say die attitude shone through. Emmet O'Shea with 7 points picked up the man of the match award after the game. HarryKelty with 1-3, Rualri Doyle 0-2 and Eoin Talbot to name just a few, were also outstanding on the day. Congratulations to both players and Management.
